Rydym yn Ardal Weinidogaeth yn Eryri yn Esgobaeth Bangor, yr un mwyaf gogleddol o’r chwech esgobaeth yr Eglwys yng Nghymru. Lleolir ein heglwysi mewn pentrefi rhwng bwlch mynydd Llanberis a thref arfordirol Caernarfon. Mae’r enw ‘Bro Eryri’ yn llythrennol yn golygu ‘Ardal o Eryri’, ac mae’n fraint i’r Ardal Weinidogaeth fod wedi gael ei gosod yn nghanol golygfeydd godidog.

We are a Ministry Area in Snowdonia in the Diocese of Bangor, the northernmost of the six dioceses of the Church in Wales. Our churches are located in villages between the Llanberis mountain pass and the coastal town of Caernarfon. The name ‘Bro Eryri’ literally means ‘The Area of Snowdonia’, and the Ministry Area is privileged to be set in glorious scenery.

Mae Eglwys Sant Peris, Nant Peris, yn eglwys fechan  ganoloesol  sydd wedi’i lleoli o dan y mynyddoedd yn yr hyn a oedd yn bentref gwreiddiol Llanberis (yr enw lle sy’n deillio o Peris, sant Celtaidd o’r 6ed ganrif). Mae’r eglwys yn adeilad rhestredig gradd II* gyda tho o drawst cain morthwyl tywyll, a chrogwyddlen arbennig iawn (sydd bellach ym mhen gorllewinol yr eglwys) wedi’i gwneud yn gyfan gwbl o un darn o dderw lleol. Mae’r eglwys yn gysylltiedig â ffynnon sanctaidd Sant Peris, sydd o fewn pellter cerdded i’r eglwys, a bu’n lle o bererindod ac iachâd am ganrifoedd lawer. Mae’r eglwys ar agor bob dydd rhwng 11yb a 4yh, ac mae croeso i ymwelwyr hefyd wrth y ffynnon.

St Peris’s, Nant Peris, is a small medieval church situated beneath the mountains in what was the original village of Llanberis (the place name deriving from Peris, a Celtic saint from the 6th century). The church is a grade II* listed building with a fine dark hammer-beam roof, and a very special rood screen (now at the west end of the church) made entirely from one piece of local oak. The church is associated with the holy well of St Peris, within walking distance of the church, and was for many centuries a place of pilgrimage and healing. The church is open daily between 11am and 4pm, and visitors are also welcome at the well.

Mae eglwys Sant Padarn yn adeilad rhestredig graddfa II* wedi’i adeiladu mewn man amlwg uwchlaw pentref Llanberis. Dyma’r 4ydd eglwys yn hanes Llanberis, cyn 1870 cynhaliwyd y gwasanaethau yn ‘Nhy’r Clwb’, sef safle swyddfeydd Rheilffordd yr Wyddfa heddiw. Ariannwyd codi’r adeilad gan deulu Assheton Smith, perchnogion chwarel Dinorwig, a gosodwyd y garreg sylfaen yn Ionawr 1884. Mae wedi’i adeiladu o feini lleol, gyda naddiadau o dywodfaen pinc. Cysegrwyd yr eglwys ar 24 Mehefin 1885. Y pensaer oedd Mr Arthur Baker, Llundain, ac mae Eglwys Gadeiriol Pretoria, De Affrica wedi’i chynllunio ar yr un patrwm. Cafwyd pen gorllewinol yr eglwys ei hymestyn yn 1914, gan gynnwys adeiladu Capel Mair. Mae’r bedyddfan, sydd yn ol rhai wedi dod o eglwys St Peris, wedi’i leoli yn yr estyniad yma. Yn ol yr hanes yr oedd St Padarn ymhlith y seintiau a ddaeth a Christnogaeth i Gymru o’r Iwerddon yn y 6ed ganrif. O bosib ‘roedd yn gyfaill i Dewi Sant. Esgob oedd Padarn, ac felly dangosir ef wrth yr Uwch Allor mewn gwisg Esgob. Mae’r Uwch Allor yn gofgolofn i feibion yr eglwys a gollwyd yn y ddau Ryfel Byd.

St Padarn’s church is a Grade II* listed building built on a small hill overlooking the village of Llanberis. This is the 4th church in the history of Llanberis, before 1870 the Church members used to meet at a place called the ‘Club House’ which today are the offices of the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The building was funded by the Assheton Smith family, owners of the Dinorwig quarry, and the foundation stone was laid in January 1884. The walls are built of local stone, with dressings of red stone. The church was dedicated on 24th June 1885. The architect was Mr Arthur Baker of London, and the same design can be found in the Cathedral of St Alban the Martyr, Pretoria, South Africa. The west end of the building was extended in 1914, including the construction of the Lady Chapel. The font for baptism, which is believed to have come from St Peris church, is now situated in this part of the extension. History records St Padarn as one of the saints who brought Christianity to Wales. He came from Ireland in the 6th century and was possibly a companion to St David. He was a bishop, and is depicted in Bishop’s robes at the High Altar. The high altar is a memorial to the young men of the church who lost their lives during the two World Wars.
